This policy sets out the minimum requirements for the awarding of Life Membership of the Barooga Football Netball Club Inc.

Life Membership is the Club’s highest honour. It is to be awarded to deserving members and/or players who have provided outstanding service, contributing significantly to the development and success of the Club both on the field and court, as well as off them, for a minimum of 15 years.

During the nomination and selection process, due respect must be given to the honour and privilege associated with the award, noting that Life Members become role models within the Club.

Life Membership should only be granted after careful consideration of each nominee’s overall contribution to the development and functioning of the Club.

Only one recipient should ordinarily receive this award in any given year. In exceptional circumstances, additional awards may be granted at the unanimous discretion of the Executive Committee.

Life Membership Sub-Committee

The Life Membership Sub-Committee shall consist of:

• A minimum of two (2) and a maximum of four (4) members, and
• At least one current Executive Member of the Football Netball Committee, and
• At least one current Life Member.

Selection Criteria

Players

A football or netball player may be eligible for Life Membership when the following criteria are met:

• A minimum of three (3) years’ service to the Club in an off-field capacity.
• Character, personal standing, and behaviour are beyond reproach.
• Playing milestones (any of the following):
  • A minimum of 250 open-age senior football or A/B grade netball games, or
  • A minimum of 300 open-age games across senior and reserve grade, or other senior netball grades.
  • Specific achievements, both on the field/court and off it, will also be taken into account.

Volunteers

A volunteer may be eligible for Life Membership through a combination of the following:

• A minimum of 15 years’ service on the Club Committee.
• A minimum of 10 years as an Office Bearer of the Club.
• 20 years in combined roles such as Office Bearer, Committee Member, Coach, Runner, Team Manager, Bar/Canteen Manager, Timekeeper, or other roles at the discretion of the Life Membership Sub-Committee.
• Character, personal standing, and behaviour are beyond reproach.
• Specific achievements, both on the field/court and off it, will also be taken into account.

Nomination Procedure

• Nominations must be made and seconded by existing financial members of the Barooga Football Netball Club Inc.
• At least one nominator should be an active member with good knowledge of the Club’s history.
• Nominations must clearly state the reasons Life Membership is appropriate and, where possible, include specific examples of involvement and contribution.
• Nominations must be submitted to the Secretary no later than six (6) weeks prior to the Annual General Meeting (AGM).

Selection Process

• All nominations will be treated with the strictest confidence.
• Once nominations are received, the Life Membership Sub-Committee will convene to review and assess each application.
• A completed nomination form, including the nominee’s full Club history, must accompany each application.
• The Sub-Committee will prepare a recommendation to accept or reject each nomination.
• Final approval must be made by the Barooga Football Netball Club Inc. Committee.
• Successful recipients will be formally presented with Life Membership at the following year’s Annual Presentation Evening or another suitable occasion as determined by the Committee.
